About Me

Agile isn’t about rigid frameworks—it’s about adaptability, leadership, and continuous improvement. My journey into Agile coaching is rooted in real-world experience, shaped by years of leading teams as both a developer and a coach. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach—Agile should serve the team, not the other way around. Every team is different, and the best solutions come from understanding their unique challenges rather than forcing a framework onto them.

My Background and Influences

My name is Christopher Hill, and I grew up immersed in the punk rock scene, where I learned the power of questioning the status quo, taking ownership, and making things happen without waiting for permission. The DIY mentality and raw authenticity of punk shaped my approach to leadership and problem-solving from a young age. That foundation continues to influence the way I coach teams—encouraging autonomy, direct communication, and a willingness to experiment without fear of failure.

At the same time, my Japanese heritage instilled in me the importance of discipline, respect, and continuous improvement. Concepts like kaizen (incremental progress) and collective responsibility guide my approach to Agile, emphasizing reflection, learning, and adaptability. This balance—between challenging conventions and refining processes—defines how I help teams navigate their work. It’s why I don’t subscribe to rigid Agile playbooks—real agility comes from understanding when to push boundaries and when to refine existing practices.

The Role of an Agile Coach

Coaching isn’t about imposing processes or best practices—it’s about helping teams find their own way, building confidence, and fostering an environment where they can thrive. Agile isn’t about rigid frameworks; it’s about enabling adaptability and continuous growth. My approach is shaped by the belief that teams should be empowered to make decisions that work for them rather than being forced into someone else’s definition of Agile success.

Leadership and Influence

I believe leadership is about impact, not authority. My focus has always been on creating meaningful change, whether or not I’m the one getting credit for it. I work alongside teams, guiding them to develop skills, solve problems, and create sustainable ways of working that suit their unique challenges.

Final Thoughts

If a process works, keep it. If it doesn’t, adapt or drop it. What matters is the outcome, not strict adherence to a framework. My goal is to help teams discover what works best for them while building the confidence to navigate Agile practices effectively. My background has taught me that agility isn’t just about processes—it’s about mindset, adaptability, and knowing when to challenge the rules.
